How to give every Canvas page the same clean look
Short answer: Canvas has no page templates. By hand, go to Pages → View All Pages, open a page’s Options menu, choose Duplicate, and edit the copy. Or open Course++ in your course and type: “Make every page in Unit 2 match the Week 1 page: same headings, a banner at the top, and a blue box for each Do this.”
The problem
Your pages look like five different people built them.
Canvas gives you no style set for a course. Each page gets its own fonts, colors and spacing from whatever you pasted in, so matching them means reformatting one page at a time.
one page at a timeeasy to miss a detail
The fix
Pick one page you like. Course++ matches the rest.
Course++ reads your model page, rewrites the other pages’ formatting to match, and re-reads each one to confirm Canvas saved it. Your text stays as it is.

Prompts you can copy
Open your Canvas course, open Course++ beside it, and paste one of these. Change the names and numbers to match your course.
Look at the Week 1 Reading page. Make the Week 2 to Week 5 reading pages match it: same heading levels, same colors, a banner at the top, and a blue Do this box for the tasks.

One new box in a style you already use.Add a simple banner illustration to the top of the Week 1 Reading page that fits the story we’re reading. If I like it, I’ll ask for Weeks 2 to 5.

How to match page styles in Canvas by hand
- In Course Navigation, click Pages, then View All Pages.
- Find the page you like, click its Options icon (three dots), and choose Duplicate.
- Open the copy and click Edit.
- Replace the text, keeping its headings. To set a heading, select the text, open the Paragraph drop-down in the toolbar, and pick Heading 2, Heading 3 or Heading 4.
- For a callout box, insert a one-cell table with the Table icon, then set a Background Color in Table Properties.
- Give the copy its own page title, then click Save.
Good to know
- Canvas strips some HTML and CSS. Its editor keeps only an approved list of tags and styles and removes the rest when you save. Scripts and some styling will not survive, so keep to simple headings, colors and tables.
- Course++ works inside that same list. It re-reads each page after saving, so you will see if Canvas changed something. Its History can undo most page edits.
- Pictures it makes cost a little more. Each banner or illustration Course++ makes uses extra credits, and on some plans pictures may not be included. It writes alt text for each one, so read it and change anything that’s off.
- Headings matter for more than looks. See how to fix alt text and heading order.
Questions teachers ask
Does Canvas have page templates?
No. Canvas has no built-in templates for pages. The common workaround is to duplicate a page you like and edit the copy.
How do I make my Canvas pages look professional?
Use real headings from the Paragraph drop-down, a few consistent colors, and the same banner and boxes on every page. Less variety looks cleaner.
Why did Canvas change my HTML when I saved?
Canvas removes any tag or style that is not on its approved list. Scripts, some embeds and some CSS properties are removed, so what you see after saving can differ from what you typed.
What is Course++?
A browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that adds an AI assistant to Canvas. You type what you want, and it makes the change in the course you have open, using your own Canvas account, so it can only do what you can do.
250 FREE credits to try it. No credit card.
Canvas steps checked against Instructure’s own Canvas guides in October 2026. Canvas changes its screens from time to time, and schools turn features on and off, so a button may be named a little differently in yours.
