Terms of Service
Version terms-4.6.0 · in force from 27 October 2026
Course++ — a product of CoursePlusPlus LLC
01
1. Who this agreement is with
These terms are an agreement between you and CoursePlusPlus LLC, a Utah limited liability company.
By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Course++.
02
2. What Course++ is
Course++ is a browser extension that helps you build course content in Canvas — pages, assignments, quizzes, modules and discussions — using an AI model.
It is a curriculum development tool. It does not grade student work and it cannot read student records. See our Privacy Policy for what that means technically.
Course++ is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc.
03
3. Who may use it
You may use Course++ if you are:
- 18 or older, and
- an instructor or member of instructional staff at an accredited postsecondary institution, and
- in the United States
Course++ is sold to individuals. We do not sell to schools, districts or institutions, we do not enter into agreements with them, and we do not offer institutional licensing, purchase orders or volume seats.
Course++ is not for students.
Your responsibility to your own institution
You are responsible for following your employer's policies. Many institutions have rules about using third-party AI tools in coursework, and some require approval first. Check yours. We cannot know what your institution allows, and agreeing to these terms is not a substitute for its permission.
04
4. Your account
Keep your sign-in secure and do not share your account. You are responsible for what happens under it.
One account per person. You may not create additional accounts to obtain more than one free trial.
05
5. Credits, and what expires
Course++ runs on credits. One credit is one cent of AI model usage: each request uses as many credits as the AI model actually cost for it. The price you pay for credits includes our margin.
| Kind | Expires |
|---|---|
| Top-up credits (bought, or earned by referring someone) | Never. They are yours, and they survive cancellation |
| Monthly credits | At the end of each month |
| Trial credits | 14 days after we grant them |
| Bonus credits (promotional) | As stated when you receive them |
We tell you the expiry at the moment you receive credits, not only here, and Course++ shows you the same four names on its Settings screen — in the order they will actually be spent.
Referral credits are earned only as §21, Referral program describes: when the colleague you invite pays for the monthly plan at full price, with no promo code or discount, and not the yearly plan. That section says when each side's credits arrive and when a reward can be reversed.
Your allowance is spent before your purchased credits, automatically, so what you paid for is never used up first.
06
6. Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Before you are charged the first time, we show you the price, the billing period and how to cancel, and you agree to renewal separately from these terms.
Prices do not include sales tax. Applicable US sales tax is added on top of the price and is calculated at checkout.
Cancelling takes one click, from inside the extension or from your account page at courseplusplus.com/account. No phone call and no email. The cancellation page, which Stripe runs, may ask why you are leaving; answering is optional, and cancelling never depends on it. Your subscription runs to the end of the period you already paid for and then stops renewing. Your purchased credits are unaffected.
If we change the price, we will tell you by email between 7 and 30 days before the change takes effect, and you can cancel before it applies.
Cancelling is not the same as deleting your account — you keep your login so you can spend credits you bought.
07
7. Refunds
7.1 The 30-day guarantee
If Course++ is not what you wanted, email [email protected] within 30 days of paying and we will refund what you have not spent — your unused credits. No form, no questions, no retention offer. For an annual plan, §7.4 applies instead.
7.2 What is and isn't refundable
| Credits you haven't spent | Refundable within 30 days |
| Credits you have spent | Not refundable — the AI usage behind them was already paid for |
| The current month of a monthly plan | Refundable if you have not used it |
| An annual plan, within 30 days of a payment (the first or a renewal) | Refundable — in full if you have not spent any of its credits, or minus one month at the monthly plan's price if you have |
| An annual plan, more than 30 days after a payment | Runs to the end of the year you paid for, with its monthly credits still arriving, and is not refunded for the months you do not use |
Credits you have spent are not refundable, because the AI usage behind them was already paid for. Your credit history shows exactly what was used and when, so there is nothing to argue about.
7.3 Cancelling is not refunding
Cancelling and refunding are different things. Cancelling (§6) stops your subscription renewing: it runs to the end of the period you already paid for, then stops renewing. Credits you bought are unaffected — they never expire and they survive cancellation, and you keep your account and your login, so you can keep spending them after you cancel.
7.4 Annual plans
An annual plan is paid for the whole year up front, and its credits arrive month by month.
Email us within 30 days of paying for an annual plan and we will refund it: in full if you have not spent any of its credits, or minus one month at the monthly plan's price if you have. After that, the plan runs to the end of the year you paid for and is not refunded for the months you do not use.
The 30 days run from each payment, the first or a renewal, and cover the whole payment, not only the credits that have arrived so far.
If you cancel, your plan runs to the end of the year you paid for — your monthly credits keep arriving until then, so the whole year stays yours to use — and it does not renew.
7.5 If we end it
If we stop offering Course++, or close your account when you have not broken these terms, we refund your unused purchased credits and, on an annual plan, one-twelfth of what you paid for each full month still to come. You should not lose money because we changed our plans.
If we suspend or close your account because you broke these terms (including §8), because of fraud, or because the law requires it, we still refund your unused purchased credits, but not the months still to come on an annual plan. Credits already taken back because of a refund or a payment dispute are not refunded a second time.
7.6 How refunds arrive
Through Stripe, to the original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days.
If something has gone wrong with a charge, please email us before disputing it with your card issuer. A dispute costs us a fee on top of the refund, and we would almost always rather just refund you.
7.7 If Canvas stops working with Course++
Despite §7.2 and §7.4: if Instructure or a change to Canvas outside our control stops Course++ from working with Canvas for 14 days in a row or longer, and you are on an annual plan, you can ask for a refund for the unused months. Email [email protected] within 60 days. We'll refund one-twelfth of the annual price for each full month left, the same way as §7.5. This refund is on request, not automatic. If we cancel your subscription because of this, §7.5 applies.
08
8. What you may not do
- Share your account, or resell access
- Use automated scripts or tools to drive Course++
- Create multiple accounts to get extra free credits or referral credits
- Modify the extension to work around usage limits or billing
- Use Course++ to break the law, your institution's policies, or Canvas's terms
- Feed Course++ material you do not have the right to use
- Attach or paste student work, grades or rosters
The rules below set this out in detail. Until 27 October 2026 they were a separate Acceptable Use Policy; they are unchanged.
8.1 Don't put student data into it
Course++ cannot read student records from Canvas — that is enforced in the software. But you can hand it things directly, and we are asking you not to.
Do not attach, paste or type:
- Student work — essays, submissions, discussion replies
- Gradebook exports, or screenshots of grades
- Class rosters, student email addresses or ID numbers
- Anything from your Canvas inbox — accommodation requests, conduct or Title IX correspondence, counselling messages
Whatever you give Course++ goes to an AI model. The protections built into the tool cannot inspect a file you hand it.
8.2 Don't abuse the account or the billing
- One account per person
- Don't share your login, or resell access
- Don't create extra accounts to collect more than one free trial
- Don't run Course++ with scripts or automation
- Don't modify the extension to get around usage limits or metering
8.3 Don't use it against the rules that already apply to you
- Follow your institution's policies, including any about AI tools
- Follow Canvas's terms
- Only give Course++ material you have the right to use
- Follow your institution's grade-change procedures. Course++ can help you fix a broken quiz question; it does not excuse you from however your school requires changes to be recorded
8.4 Don't use it for these
- Anything illegal
- Harassing, threatening or defaming anyone
- Deliberately generating content designed to deceive or harm
- Attempting to break, overload or probe our systems
- Attempting to extract our system prompts or work around the tool's safety limits
8.5 What happens if you do
We may suspend your account while we look into it, and terminate it if the breach is real. If we terminate, we refund your unused purchased credits. If we terminate when you have not broken these rules, we also refund, on an annual plan, one-twelfth of what you paid for each full month still to come.
We will tell you which rule was involved.
8.6 Reporting
If you see someone misusing Course++, or you think we have got something wrong, email [email protected].
09
9. What Course++ produces, and who owns it
Whatever Course++ generates in your course is yours, to the extent it is capable of being owned. We claim no rights to it, and the AI model provider claims none either.
That qualification is deliberate and we would rather explain it than hide it. United States copyright law does not currently protect material generated by artificial intelligence without sufficient human authorship. So we cannot honestly promise you a copyright in AI output — nobody can. What we can promise is that we will not assert any claim over it, and that nothing in our arrangements with the model provider lets them assert one either.
You are responsible for what you publish. AI output can be confidently wrong. Check it before students see it.
10
10. What the software will not do
Course++ writes into a live course. Some limits are built in, on purpose:
- It cannot read student records — the refusal is in the code, not in a policy
- It does not grade student work
- It will not make changes without showing you first, for anything destructive
- It will not publish, unpublish, conclude, restore or reset your course without asking. It can do each when you ask (restoring brings back a course that was deleted), and it always asks you to confirm first — every time. Resetting deletes everything in the course and can't be undone
- It asks you before it changes a course setting
- It sends a Canvas message only when you ask, only to a whole class or one group in it (never one named person), and only after showing you the exact message
11
11. Availability
We will try to keep Course++ running, but we do not promise it will always be available, and we do not offer a service level agreement. It depends on Canvas, on our AI provider, and on your browser — none of which we control. If Canvas stops working with Course++ for 14 days in a row or longer, see §7.7.
We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue Course++ entirely, we will refund unused purchased credits and, on an annual plan, one-twelfth of what you paid for each full month still to come.
12
12. Support
Support covers Course++ and your account: billing, sign-in problems, faults, and anything the tool did that it should not have.
It does not cover course design, writing your syllabus, or how to use Canvas itself. For teaching help, your institution's teaching centre is a better place to start.
We aim to reply within two business days. That is a goal, not a promise.
13
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Course++ at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if we need to investigate suspected fraud, or if we are required to. Where we do, we refund your unused purchased credits. If we close your account when you have not broken these terms, we also refund, on an annual plan, one-twelfth of what you paid for each full month still to come. We do not refund those months when the reason is your breach of these terms, fraud, or a legal requirement.
We will tell you why, and cite the term involved.
14
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of Course++ is limited to the greater of: the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$2,000.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including fraud, wilful misconduct, or anything else your state does not permit us to cap.
Course++ is provided "as is." We do not warrant that it will be error-free, that the AI output will be accurate, or that it will suit your purpose.
15
15. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Course++ — content you fed it, material you had no right to use, or use that broke your institution's policies — you agree to cover our reasonable costs in dealing with it.
16
16. Disputes
We would rather fix a problem than argue about one. This section says what happens if that fails.
16.1 Talk to us first
Before starting a formal proceeding, email [email protected] with a short description of the problem and what you want. We will do the same if the complaint is ours. Both sides agree to give the other 60 days to resolve it informally. Most disputes about a $20 subscription are a misunderstanding or a refund, and both of those are faster by email than by any process below.
This 60-day period pauses any deadline for bringing a claim.
16.2 Small claims court is always available
You may always bring an individual claim in small claims court instead of arbitration, if it qualifies there. Nothing in this section takes that away, and we will not try to move a qualifying small-claims case into arbitration.
16.3 Arbitration
If informal resolution does not work, you and CoursePlusPlus LLC agree to resolve any remaining dispute by individual binding arbitration, rather than in court, except as stated in 16.2 and 16.6. This agreement is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act.
| Who administers it | The American Arbitration Association, under its Consumer Arbitration Rules |
| Where | Remotely, or in the county where you live, at your choice — never somewhere you have to travel to |
| Who pays | We pay the filing, administration and arbitrator fees for any claim you bring, except the portion the AAA rules assign to you as a consumer, which we will also pay if you ask and the arbitrator does not find the claim frivolous |
| What the arbitrator may decide | Everything a court could about your claim, including whether this section applies — but only as to your claim |
| Written decision | Yes, with the reasons |
Either side may still ask a court for an injunction to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property, without that affecting the rest of this section.
16.4 No class actions
Claims may be brought only in your own individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, and may not preside over any form of class or representative proceeding.
This is the most consequential sentence in this document, so we will say why it is here rather than bury it. Course++ is one person's company with no outside funding. A single class proceeding, whatever its merits, would end it before it was decided. We would rather be answerable to you directly, quickly, and at our own cost — which 16.1 through 16.3 are built to make real — than carry a risk that size.
If the class waiver in this section is found unenforceable as to some claim, then that claim, and only that claim, is removed from arbitration and must proceed in court under §17. The rest of this section still applies to everything else.
16.5 You can opt out of arbitration
You may reject 16.3 and 16.4 entirely. Email [email protected] with the subject "Arbitration opt-out", from the address on your account, within 30 days of first agreeing to these terms. Say only that you are opting out. We will confirm in writing.
Opting out costs you nothing, changes nothing else about your account, and is not held against you in any way. If you opt out, disputes go to court under §17 and the rest of these terms are unaffected.
16.6 What this section does not reach
This agreement binds only you, the account holder. It waives no right of any student, parent, colleague or institution, and it cannot — none of them agreed to it. If someone who never held a Course++ account has a claim, nothing here applies to them.
16.7 Time limit
Any claim must be brought within one year of when you first knew or reasonably should have known of the facts behind it, or it is waived — except where your state's law gives you longer, in which case its period applies.
17
17. Governing law, and where a court case goes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules — except where the law of your own state gives you rights that cannot be waived, in which case those apply.
Where a dispute does go to court rather than to arbitration — because you opted out under §16.5, because §16.4's class waiver was set aside, or because it belongs in small claims under §16.2 — it goes to the state or federal courts in Washington County, Utah, and both sides consent to that.
If you live in California, you may disregard the previous paragraph and bring the case in your own county instead, under California law. We will not ask a California court to move it to Utah. California Civil Code §1799.208 gives a California consumer that right, and we would rather state it here than make you discover it.
18
18. Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we will tell you by email and in the product before it takes effect, and ask you to agree again. We keep a record of which version you agreed to and when.
19
19. If part of this is unenforceable
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us.
20
21
21. Referral program
Until 27 October 2026 this section was a separate page, the Referral Program Terms. The rules are carried over, except that §21.8 now follows §18.
Invite a colleague to Course++. If they sign up with your code and pay for the monthly plan at full price, you both get bonus credits. This section sets out exactly when, so nobody is surprised.
21.1 The short version
- Your colleague gets bonus credits when they start a monthly plan at full price.
- You get your bonus credits after their second full-price monthly payment, once 60 days have passed since their first payment.
- The yearly plan does not count, and neither does any payment made with a promo code, coupon or other discount.
- While a referral is in progress, promo codes can't be used on that account. Once it has finished, they work again.
- Bonus credits never expire. Up to 10 rewards are paid a year; any more wait their turn.
21.2 Who can take part
Anyone with a Course++ account can invite colleagues. It is free: you never pay anything to refer someone, and you do not need a paid plan yourself.
The person you invite must be new to Course++. They enter your code in Course++ within 24 hours of creating their account, before they have paid for anything, and before they have redeemed a Course++ promo code. Each account can use one referral code, once.
It has to be someone else. Referring yourself, or a second account of your own, does not count. Colleagues at your own school are welcome.
21.3 What counts
A referral counts only when your colleague pays for the monthly plan at full price:
- the monthly plan — the yearly plan does not count, even though it is better value;
- the full monthly price, before tax — no promo code, coupon, discount or credit code of any kind, and not a payment partly covered by an account credit.
Buying a top-up credit pack at full price does not count toward a referral and does not end one.
If, before your reward is earned, your colleague pays with any discount, chooses or switches to the yearly plan, or pays less than the full monthly price, the referral ends. Neither of you gets any further bonus credits from it. Credits your colleague has already received stay theirs, unless a payment is later refunded or disputed (see below).
Promo codes while a referral is in progress
- While your colleague's referral is in progress, promo codes can't be used on their account. It is in progress from the moment they apply your code until your reward is earned (normally after their second full-price monthly payment) or the referral ends — for example because they chose the yearly plan. During that time the promo-code box is not offered when they pay for Course++, and Course++ promo codes can't be redeemed.
- If your colleague hasn't paid for a monthly plan within 30 days of applying your code, promo codes work for them again. Using one then ends the referral. If they start a monthly plan at full price instead, the referral carries on as normal, and promo codes are blocked again until it has finished.
- Once the referral has finished, promo codes work again. Using one then does not take back any credits either of you has already received or earned.
- A colleague who has already redeemed a Course++ promo code can't use your code. If one was applied anyway, the referral ends when they first pay, in the same way as a discounted payment.
21.4 When the credits arrive
| Who | When |
|---|---|
| Your colleague | When their first full-price monthly payment goes through |
| You | After their second full-price monthly payment, once 60 days have passed since their first payment |
Why the wait for you: a card payment can be refunded or disputed for some time after it is made, and your reward is paid for by your colleague's payments. In practice your credits arrive about 60 days after your colleague first pays.
Both amounts are shown with the offer in Course++. The invite email shows your colleague's.
21.5 Your bonus credits
- They never expire, and they stay on your account if you cancel a plan. They are added as top-up credits.
- They have no cash value. They cannot be exchanged for money, refunded, sold or moved to another account.
- Up to 10 rewards are paid in any 12 months. A reward beyond that is not lost: it waits until fewer than 10 have been paid to you in the past 12 months, and is paid then.
- An account can only hold so many credits at once. If yours is at that limit, a reward waits until there is room for it, and is paid then.
21.6 When we take a reward back
If a payment of your colleague's is refunded or disputed, we reverse the referral on both sides: your reward, if it has been paid, and the bonus credits your colleague received. The referral then ends. A partial refund reverses the whole referral.
We may withhold or reverse rewards that come from abuse: self-referrals, duplicate or fake accounts, or anything else that games the program. Abuse can also lead to the account being closed under §8 and §13 of these terms.
21.7 Sharing your code
- Invite people who would want it. No spam, no bulk email to lists, and no messages that pretend to be from Course++.
- If you share your code publicly — a post, a blog, a newsletter — say that you get credits when people sign up with it.
- Do not make claims about Course++ that are not true, and never offer anything in return for a review or a rating.
When you use Invite a colleague in Course++, we send one email to the address you type. It names you as the person inviting them, gives them your code, their bonus and how to get it, links to these terms, and says how to opt out of further invites. It does not mention your own reward; that is set out in this section.
21.8 If we change or end the program
Changes to this section follow §18. We may end the referral program at any time; ending it does not need a new agreement from you. Rewards already earned are kept — including a reward that is earned and still waiting out its 60 days — and so are credits your colleague has already received.
Referrals made before 2 October 2026 keep the rules that applied when the code was entered: the colleague's bonus and your reward follow their first payment of any kind.
